I painted this in 1999 as a reminder of the time our boat conked out off the shore of Wednesday Island in the Torres Strait. I set off the emergency beacon and a helicopter showed up to illuminate our position to the rescue boat and lit up the whole reef and the boat with an eerie light.
About Joe Michelli
I presently reside in Yaroomba near the town of Coolum Beach on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. I have been consistently producing art work for a good portion of my life. I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and an Art Education Certificate from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago. I was born and raised in the city of Chicago, but since 1996 I live and work in Australia . My artistic influences are pretty eclectic. I am thoroughly steeped in the history of western art from ancient to modern and I have explored thoroughly the art of Islam, ancient Greek, Roman, Sumerian and Egyptian art as well.
